IDEC Student Design Competition 2022

Residential | Fall 2022

The design requirements for the IDEC Student Design Competition 2022 was to create a home for refugees in a scenario either current or in the near future, in no more than 500 square feet. My team, Kaylie Cross, Grace Waguespack, Jada Moran, and I decided to design for Syrian women/families fleeing from war to find refuge in Lebanon. Specifically, we came across a story from a single mother living in this reality, constantly living in fear and uncertainty after losing her husband, home, and life as she knew it. We designed the home based on her story and pulled inspiration from both Syrian and Lebanese styles to create this model. Arch motifs, vibrant mosaics and textiles, and limestone walls can be seen throughout the space to fuse these two cultures together. This space is equipped with privacy and security, multi-person sleeping arrangements, natural daylighting, a kitchen, and a centralized living room.
