PAVE + City Relief Student Design Competition

Fall 2022

This competition required a design of a mobile homeless shelter that upholds City Relief’s, a non-profit based in New York, values of compassion, oneness, transformation, and excellence. Following their approach of mobility, flexibility, and consistency. My partner, Kaylie Cross, and I were able to create a system of homeless shelters that are foldable, collapsable, and transportable by manipulating pre-fabricated eco-cabins. The configuration and design of the site plan enable movement throughout to encourage human interaction + connection.

It is estimated that 91,271 people in New York experience homelessness everyday. Of that total, 15,151 people were family households. Taking a research-based design approach, we created a design solution to aid homeless families by highlighting human experience, family bonding, and community engagement - while also addressing homeless trauma and shelter needs.
